Ashgrove Serif is a five-weight old-style text serif with true italics, drawn for extended reading at small sizes.

Serifs that meet the stem at a sharp right angle fill in with ink at text sizes and turn the letter into a smudge. Ashgrove uses a bracketed join, where the serif curves into the stem and leaves the counter open.
